3D Areola Restoration

"Reclaim your body. Complete your journey."

3D Areola tattoo restoration is a specialized form of paramedical tattooing that recreates the natural appearance of the areola and nipple after mastectomy, breast reconstruction, or other breast surgeries. It is one of the final — and most transformative — steps in the breast cancer recovery journey.

Using advanced tattooing techniques and medical-grade pigments, Natalia hand-crafts a three-dimensional, realistic areola that is customized to your skin tone, your body, and your vision of wholeness. The result is not a stamp or a stencil — it is art, created just for you.

For many patients, this procedure marks the moment they finally feel like themselves again.

Whos it for?

Areola restoration is for you if you:

- Have completed or are planning mastectomy with breast reconstruction
- Have had a nipple-sparing or skin-sparing mastectomy and want to restore natural color and definition
- Are a breast cancer survivor at any stage of recovery
- Were born without defined areolas (congenital condition) or have experienced trauma, scarring, or asymmetry
- Simply want to restore symmetry following lumpectomy or other breast surgeries

You do not need a referral to book — but many patients come to us through their plastic surgeon's office. Either path is welcome.

Step 1 — Consultation (Virtual or In-Person)
We start with a conversation. Natalia will review your medical history, discuss your healing timeline, look at photos if you're not local, and talk through what you want the outcome to feel like. There's no pressure and no rush. This is your journey.

*Most patients are eligible for the procedure 4–6 months after reconstruction is complete and their surgeon has cleared them.*

Step 2 — Your Procedure
On the day of your appointment, Natalia maps out the areola shape and placement with you in the mirror — you have full input. Using pigments custom-blended for your unique skin tone, she builds depth and dimension through precise layering techniques that create a realistic, three-dimensional result.

Sessions typically last **2–3 hours**. Most clients describe the sensation as mild discomfort at most — numbing cream is used throughout.

Step 3 — Healing & Touch-Up
Healing takes approximately **4–6 weeks**. During that time, the pigment will soften and settle. A **complimentary touch-up session** is included at 6–8 weeks to refine color and detail once the skin has fully healed.

Natalia will provide detailed aftercare instructions and is available for questions throughout your healing process.
Step 4- Potential Insurance & Reimbursement

- Under the **Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998**, all group health plans and insurers that cover mastectomies are legally required to also cover reconstruction — including prostheses, physical complications, and related procedures
- In practice, insurance reimbursement for tattooing specifically varies — some insurers cover it directly, others do not. Patients with coverage can sometimes seek reimbursement with a superbill which Pink Ink PMT can help with the process of potential reimbursement!

Client

Natalia is the best!! She’s been doing my microblading for a couple of years. When she found out I had a radical mastectomy, she tattooed the areola’s on my breast. I now look like a real woman!!! I’m SO happy with her work!!!

Does it hurt?
Most patients report minimal discomfort. A topical numbing cream is applied before and during the procedure to keep you comfortable. Sensation in reconstructed breasts varies by surgical outcome — many patients have reduced sensitivity in the area, which can mean even less discomfort than expected.

How many sessions will I need?
Most clients achieve their desired result in two sessions — the initial procedure and a touch-up at 6–8 weeks. Some clients with significant scarring or very light skin tones may require a third session for optimal depth and coverage.

What does it cost?
Pricing varies based on complexity, symmetry needs, and travel location. Consultations are complimentary. Please contact us for a personalized quote — we are committed to working with you and will always be transparent about pricing upfront.

Does insurance cover areola tattooing?
Under the **Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act (WHCRA) of 1998**, most insurance plans that cover mastectomy are required to cover prosthetic devices and reconstructive procedures — which may include areola tattooing. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly first, and we can provide documentation to support your claim upon request. We are here for you to help you through the coverage/ reimbursement process

Do you travel? I'm not near one of your locations.
Yes. Pink Ink PMT serves patients in Atlanta, GA · Bethlehem, PA · Tampa, FL and schedules travel dates throughout the year. If you're outside these areas, reach out — we may be able to accommodate you on an upcoming travel date or help you find a referral.

What if I only need one side restored?
Absolutely — single-side restoration for asymmetry, scarring, or nipple-sparing cases is common and treated with the same care and artistry as bilateral work.

When can I start? How do I know if I'm ready?
The general guideline is that breast reconstruction should be fully healed — typically 4–6 months post-surgery — and your plastic surgeon should have cleared you for tattooing. If you're unsure, bring it up at your next surgical follow-up, or contact us and we'll help you think through timing together.
